8 june, 1975 – 20 june, 2016
On June 20’th, 2016 at 5pm our beautiful Butterfly Maria Dumbrava has passed away. Always happy and full of life she will remain alive in our thoughts and our hearts! Rest in Peace Maria
My name is Dumbrava Maria, I was born on June 8, 1975 in Chisinau, in Ghidighici suburb, in a blue collar family. At birth I had 3kg and 400grams, I was 51cm long, and right after birth from what I am being told I had blisters filled with water on my feet. I stayed in the hospital longer than usual because blisters with water and blood kept appearing on my body. The doctors were draining them using tweezers, but the blisters kept coming back. Afterwards other treatments were used, I was given herbal baths, different unguents however the relief was very short lived. My mother was advised to take to Moscow, however because my disease was considered untreatable my mother decided not to go. In 1991 I was given a diagnosis Polydysplastic – Epidermolysis Bullosa and I was given a disability group II. In 1994 my teeth started to deteriorate, underneath my chin festering ulcers were forming. I have been told this condition had a connection with my teeth. My dentists couldn’t treat my teeth because I would require a surgery, which because of my condition was impossible. I only attended 8 forms in school, I couldn’t find a job, because my disease wouldn’t allow me to make great efforts. Because half of my body was covered in wounds, just a simple touch would cause me huge pain and itch. In 1999 my disease aggravated and affected my kidneys, later I was hospitalized and I was diagnosed with 3’rd group Anemia. In 2003 I was hospitalized at the Republican Hospital, and was treated for 3 weeks. In 2009 all my teeth were removed because my disease affected them. In 2011 my disease progressed and I was given 1’st group disability. I also started having great difficulties in my movement. I got a disorder of the digestive tract and wounds spread from the back, arms and reached my neck. For a good adequate care of my wounds I need special drugs: like “фильтр” which is not sold in my country, and which is very expensive, “Oxycort” as well as different kinds of bandages which as well are very expensive! As well all my clothes should be made out of cotton, because my skin is very sensitive. I also require healthy food. The money that I receive from the government, as my pension is barely enough to cover some of my medications. I can’t afford a decent living on this money.
That is why I am reaching for help from people like you who are willing to help. My disease is not curable but I can at least maintain it so it won’t aggravate any further, because despite all my obstacles and pain I still love life and I want to live.
Maria died on June 20’th of 2016.
